2008 was the year to place Ashtamudi lake on the tourist map of the world. conducted a Tourism Festival from the 8th of September 2008 to the 12th of September 2008 with the association of District Tourism Promotion Council at Chavara Thekkumbhagom with water festival at the Ashtamudi Lake.

The Hon. Minister for Tourism and Home affairs Sri. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan inaugurated the water festival – Trophy for Boat race on 10th September 2008,the first of its kind in the Ashtamudi lake, similar to the Nehru Trophy of Alapuzha.

Hon. Minister for Irrigation and Water Resources Sri. N.K. Premachanran inaugurated the Homestay project and Hon.Minister for Excise and Labour Sri. P. K. Gurudasan inaugurated the Hotel Lakespot as part of this project during the festival. Many other prominent leaders also participated in this festival. A food festival also was conducted with this.The boat race was telecast live by Kairali-People TV. This event of 5 days was fully at our cost to the promotion of Tourism at Kollam. And we are in the course of action to make the project complete by 2 years.
